I've collectively done a huge purge of my beauty arsenal over the last few weeks, and in doing so, I've realized there really isn't a single product in my collection now that I don't love. Some are just standing out more than others because they perform exceptionally well. Just like your closet, I feel like any woman should be able to reach into her vanity or shower and feel confident, happy, and most importantly, excited to get ready to look her best each day.

I've had all of these for awhile now, but have been saving them to mention in this post. As usual, if you have any specific questions, feel free to ask in the comments below. I could talk about beauty all day long.

There isn't a single negative thing I can say about either of these. I will never buy another lip balm again. I've found the holy grail. Not only does it smell amazing (a cross between floral and sweet), but it also stays put on my lips and moisturizes them all night while I sleep. I got the gloss in hopes it would be similar, and it really is. Moisturizing, smooth, and a sheer wearable pink. Forget wasting your money on other balms. Use them all up and get these instead.

I bought this because the regular HD foundation has been my favorite for two years. I was afraid that once it was discontinued and replaced, maybe this formula would be different. I'm not good with change! I would say that it is different, but ever so slightly. It feels smoother, and possibly a bit thinner in its formulation. The effect is beautiful on camera, just as the original. You end up looking  almost airbrushed. I use a damp sponge to apply it, and I use very little.

I used this eye cream when I first began blogging, but then switched to Origins because it was accessible whereas Kiehl's is not in my area. I don't know how I went without it for so long. It's heaven in the form of a little pot of light green goodness. What else can I say? If you're craving heavy duty moisture underneath your eyes, this is IT.

I've struggled with thin eyebrows for years, and I think I've written about that at length before. All you need to know young ladies: DO NOT OVER TWEEZE. Just don't do it. Go to a professional for your first time, and then just perform simple maintenance from there after. I've used pencil, powders, and gels to fill in sparse areas but nothing has worked quite like this product. I bought it after a Sephora salesgirl cornered me, wanting to mess with my brows. Although I felt accosted at first, I ended up writing her a thank-you note! This product does not budge, is easy to apply with an angled brush, and looks natural. Did I mention it doesn't budge?

The cleansing cream shampoo was a birthday gift from my SIL. She is a hairstylist and always introduces me to new (or new to me at least) hair products. This acts as a clarifying shampoo, so I use it only once per week. It definitely leaves my hair feeling squeaky clean, and I don't feel residue left behind like I do with my regular shampoo. I notice that other products I use to style my hair work more effectively after using this to wash it.

The flake away scrub was purchased on a whim, but I needed a new exfoliator to replace my LUSH ocean salt, since I don't have easy access to that either. Love this stuff! It's not harsh at all, has a soft scent, and leaves my skin feeling extra soft. I use this in the shower or tub about once per week as well. I use it mostly on my legs and arms.

I hope you enjoyed these mini reviews! What are your current stand-out products?

9.24.2015

Glo Minerals sent these products to me for consideration. I am in no way being compensated by the company, and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I've been a fan of Glo Minerals since they sent me the products featured in this post. I especially love the Moisture Tint, and wear it almost every day during the work week. I also love it during my trips to the beach for some added sun protection on top of my regular sunscreen. When I was contacted by them again to see if I wanted to test out a few more of their makeup and skincare line, I happily agreed.

Blush in Bellini (soft rose)
Cream Glaze Crayon in Mimosa (soft peach coral)
Matte Suede Lip Crayon in Sorbet (bright fuchsia)
Cream Glaze Lip Crayon in Bloom (beautiful pink)

I have been wearing the blush in Bellini every single day for three weeks. It gives the prettiest color to my cheeks, and it really lifts the face and provides a healthy glow. It's neutral enough that I can wear it with any eye or lip color. It has a slight subtle sheen, but it's mostly matte once applied.

The lip crayons are exactly what I've been searching for. These are what I wish other brands would be formulated as, but unfortunately are not. I've wasted so much money on waxy pencils that just don't last. These actually stain the lips, so depending on how dramatic I want my lip color to be, I either draw them on for an intense dose of color, or I dab them on using my fingers to diffuse the color so it looks more natural. Either way, if there is one shade I'd recommend, it is Bloom. It's extremely wearable, but still a fun "pop". They also aren't as drying as other jumbo lip crayons I've owned (and consequently thrown away).

Mimosa, Sorbet, Bloom

I was actually the most thrilled to try two of their skincare products from their Therapeutics line. You ladies know that I'm all about skin, and am a huge believer that it's crucial to take care of it now before it's too late. My skin isn't perfect by any means, but I have noticed a difference since using these two products, especially the serum at night. Even Nate has been using it!
The pure hydration is a light-weight moisturizer designed for daytime. It feels like a gel, and it sinks right into the skin without any leftover greasy feeling. I may need something heavier once the weather changes, but this is perfect for California's warm climate.

The renew serum is my absolute favorite now, and I got it just time as another oil I was using was running out. This goes on thick, and it almost has a slight sticky film that you can feel for a couple of minutes after smoothing it on. I like to concentrate on my cheeks and between my eyebrows since I have fine lines forming there. The smell is a bit off putting at first (it kind of smells like a cross between candy and medicine which is odd) but once I got past the initial scent, I actually have grown to like it. I will definitely repurchase after it's gone. It leaves my skin feeling supple and plumped.

7.30.2015

I haven't done a post like this in a few months and since it's one of my favorites to compile, I figured today would be the perfect time. In all honesty, I don't have any outfit photos for the remainder of this week either so...full disclosure guys!

Let's begin with fragrance.

After popping into Anthropologie last week, I finally gave into the hype (and my nose) and purchased the infamous and much beloved "Volcano" candle. One of the greatest pleasures of walking into that store is the way that it smells, and with these candles lit in almost every corner, it's definitely a smart marketing strategy! I lit it as soon as I came home and it's been in our bedroom ever since.

Another raved about fragrance is Bobbi Brown's "Beach". I remember testing it last Summer, and I just couldn't wrap my head around why someone would want to smell like suntan oil mixed with sweat. I must have been in a bad mood that time around, because when I saw it on display at Sephora last week and tried it again, I decided that it really does smell like a day at the beach. I've also decided I need to smell that way at all times now. I didn't want to invest in an entire bottle of it however, so a rollerball will do just fine. Bonus - I can throw it in my bag.

I'll list these products below and simply say that I'm continuing my mostly nude face kick, using subtle products that make me look fresh but aren't fussy to apply. "Slap it on and go" seems to be my motto this Summer. Call it laziness if you will, but I think using proper skincare is key to this. I once was embarrassed to leave the house without a full face, but now that I'm sticking to a nightly routine that cleanses and moisturizers my face, I've seen a vast improvement in overall texture.

Stila Kitten Highlighter (used on cheeks and corners of my eyes)
Bite Beauty fruit gloss in Strawberry (slicked on lips)
M.A.C. pigment in naked (one sweep over my lids)

My highlighter obsession continues with this Jaclyn Hill for Becca Cosmetics in "Pop Champagne". It was the last one left at my Sephora, and I'll admit that always suckers me into buying something. I know I didn't need it (as shown above with the Stila Kitten) but I'm happy I did because I would have regretted passing on it. It's the most gorgeous peach sheen. If you're on the fence, I would go ahead and get it especially if you are in the market for one that really adds warmth to the face. I will say, it's much more shimmery than the Stila though so be aware of that.

I'm also really loving this new necklace as worn in my last post. I plan on wearing it next with black and white tops so that the color of this stone really stands out. The picture doesn't do it justice.

Lastly, I must mention Snapchat. Are you guys doing it? I'm still getting the hang of it, but I think it's slowly replacing my Instagram obsession, if that's even possible. Add me if you care to see my daily life which mostly consists of work, casual outfits, my dog and husband, friends, and other real-life moments that are definitely not blog-worthy.

These three beauty products are my favorites right now, but if I have to recommend just one for you to try, it's the Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Eye Gels.

I used the eye gels before my friend's wedding and it definitely provided an immediate result. It didn't take my fine lines away, but it did de-puff, firm, and brighten my undereye area. Not to mention how incredibly relaxing they felt. They are essentially like stickers that you place under each eye for about ten minutes. One side has the gel that is nice and cooling. I will never be without them. They are perfect for a special event when you need an extra beauty boost, but they are also great for a self-care treat anytime.

I'm really into brights for my nails almost every Spring and Summer, but it's also nice to take a break from those and wear something a bit more subdued and elegant. Plus let's face it, nude polish is just so easy and fool-proof! I have quite a few options in my nail polish collection, but this one by O.P.I. is my current love. I wore it on my wedding day.

Three Summers ago, I purchased Summer Grace perfume by Philosophy and proceeded to quickly use it up. It is described as Summer in a bottle, and I have to agree. I think it has since been discontinued because I've looked everywhere for it, but I found it here. I again will use it all Summer long.

While browsing my giant pile of magazines I need to catch up on this weekend, I was stopped in my tracks by this image:
Hello Lover!
God I love J.Crew shoes. So well-done, and classic but with a modern twist. Precisely my style.

I got my second Rocksbox yesterday, though I think it had been sitting in my mailbox all weekend. Everything was to my liking though, and I can't wait to wear my pretty jewels. I'll be sure to do some outfit posts and show them off next week. It's time I get back to a regular blogging schedule and quit having so much fun (and a life).

Remember, use code beachfirenkxoxo for your first month free! I hate sounding like a pushy salesperson, but I really do love this company's concept and the designers involved are wonderful.

What are you loving lately in the style/beauty world? Anything I should know about?

3.19.2015

I've picked up a few beauty products in anticipation of Spring. Not that we have seasons here, and not like I really need an excuse to shop for cosmetics but that's what I like to tell myself anyway. Being that I'm a lip junkie, three of my new goodies are products I can slap on my pucker.

This is also referred to as "one luxe balm" and that is an accurate description! I first heard about it a few months ago on a beauty blog, and made a mental note that I wanted to try it. While scrolling through Nordstrom's website, I stumbled across it and knew I had to make my purchase. I've been wearing it ever since receiving it in the mail. It literally melts on the lips and saturates every little dry patch. It smells slightly floral and slightly sweet, but I can't put my finger on the exact note. Whatever it is, it smells rich as obnoxious as that sounds. I will never be without it now. By far the most beautiful product I own.

I'm not much of a lip gloss fan these days, as I prefer wearing lipstick. It seems to last longer, and my hair never gets caught in it. I bought this on a whim while at Ulta, and this is probably the closest I'll come to a gloss. It's non-sticky and moisturizing, and the coral color gives me naturally "juicy" looking lips almost like I've just eaten a popsicle. The wand is wide and flat, so it covers a good amount of my lips in just one swipe. It's also a small tube, which I appreciate because I know I can actually get through it before the product goes bad. I'm tempted to try it in another bright shade.

I'm also not a huge fan of lip liner either, but I decided to give this one a try after seeing it on a YouTuber. Urban Decay is probably my favorite makeup brand, and if I ever want to experiment, I usually look to them first. "Native" is a neutral pink lip liner that is a great base for any lipstick you put on top. It's one of those "my lips, but better" shades. As you can see, I need to sharpen it again because I've been using it daily. I not only line my lips with it, but I also fill them in and then put either the lip slip or the lip lover on top for a great everyday look.

Now a couple of non-lip products:

I love Real Techniques. The brushes are affordable, well-made, and carefully thought out. The Bold Metals collection is a bit more expensive, but this brush in particular is so worth it! It can be used to apply a variety of powders, but I've been using it to apply blush. The shape is perfect for sweeping color across my cheeks. The bristles are ultra soft, and the handle is nice and sturdy.

This was also in my Nordstrom order along with the lip slip. I have very mixed feelings about this nail polish. The color is a beautiful whitish - pink, a shade I think many women love because it goes with everything and doesn't show wear as noticeably as bright colors. However, I was disappointed with the actual formula. It was a bit clumpy, and although it only required two coats to look opaque, it chipped within a few hours. I can't justify the price either. I linked it above, but I don't exactly recommend it. Try Essie's "Urban Jungle" instead and save your money.

2.16.2015

It's been quite some time since I've delved into a beauty brand that I've never tried before. I used to run the gamut with products, but after graduating college, I stopped experimenting as much with buying copious amounts of makeup. Good for my wallet, but bad for the beauty portion of my blog! As I've stated before, I miss trying, testing, and playing. It's fun! So when Glo Minerals reached out to me about a review opportunity of two of their products, I jumped at the chance. I've heard of the brand before, and wanted to see for myself what the company is all about. Please note that although these products were sent to me for review, all thoughts and opinions are my own and I am not getting compensated in doing so. I wore both the shadows and the moisturizing tint for two weeks so that I could get a good idea of how they responded to my sensitive skin, and to see how they would wear throughout the day (and night).

Here is a brief overview of Glo Minerals: It is great for sensitive skin, because it is talc free and non-comedogenic. Their mineral makeup is designed to cover, correct, and protect. Their products are triple milled to ensure coverage that lasts. It is also infused with vitamins including green tea that act as anti-inflammatories. As I read this, I thought great! Sounds good to me.

Here are the products they sent to me, plus a gorgeous wine colored lipstick as a sweet gift. All photos were taken outside on my balcony, with natural light and no flash. What you see is what you get!

The tint comes in four colors - fair, light, medium, and dark. I have never been a fan of tinted moisturizers because I have areas of discoloration on my cheeks, nose, and chin. I typically like a medium coverage foundation to keep the discoloration at bay. However, this tinted moisturizer is amazing! You can wear it alone or underneath your regular foundation, so I tried it both ways. The best way it works for me is to layer it with my regular HD foundation. You really get a dual effect. You get sun protection which is so important, especially when you live in a warm climate like I do, and you also get the advantage of being able to use the foundation of your liking. I found that I didn't need to use my regular moisturizer. This provided a smooth, even canvas for great application. There is no real scent of sunscreen either, and the tint suited my light skin perfectly. I have a feeling this is going to be my Spring and Summer staple! It's the stand-out product out of the two that were sent to me, and I absolutely recommend it.

This little quad contains four beautiful, universal shades that go from day to night. I love the top right and bottom left shades the most, as they make for beautiful all-over lid colors. The back of this little kit has a guide I.E. base, lid, crease, and liner but I didn't use them that way. They do have shimmer to them, but once applied on the eyes, the shimmer isn't as noticeable. The pigmentation is great, and I would easily compare these to other brands found at department stores. I did use my own base as a primer to ensure lasting effects, but I do this with all of my eye makeup. These lasted during an eight hour workday with no creasing.

Here I am wearing the smoky eye kit and the moisturizing tint, all in natural daylight with no filter/photoshop.

I did want to quickly mention the lipstick in aubergine because it is a gorgeous wine color and the formula is super creamy and rich. If you're on the hunt for a great Fall/Winter shade then look no further. I forgot to photograph with it on, but I will in the future!

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and wear of these products. I had no expectations, and can genuinely say wholeheartedly that I am impressed and would buy any of these products on my own, with my money. I don't do reviews often, and I hope you'll trust me when I say that this is a great brand. Glo Minerals gave me a 15% off coupon code of your entire purchase using BEAUTYGIRL24. Give them a try (especially the moisturizing tint) and let me know what you think. A big thank you to Amy for reaching out to me.

1.14.2015

I've always loved the scent of roses. I remember when I was a small child, I'd watch my ninety year old great grandmother primping in her bathroom. I would sit on the counter and just marvel at how expertly she put on her rosy red lips and cheeks. She definitely smelled of flowers, but rose was the most prominent note. Scents are greatly tied into our memories, and I can't pass by a bouquet of blood red roses and not remember her in that tiny little bathroom getting ready for the day.

As I get older, I find myself missing her more and more. She lived to be one hundred and five, quite the feat! I can't even imagine. I also find myself drawn to certain things that she loved, especially roses. I wanted to share some of my favorite rose scented products with you, all of which I currently own and have collected over the past few months. I've a little collection growing!

I like displaying flowers in our living room or kitchen area because they brighten up the space. Nate brought me these beautiful roses on his birthday a couple of weeks ago.

My favorite perfume for the greater part of a year. As cliche as it may sound, lovely would be the best word to describe it. Along with soft, feminine, and fresh.

This along with Lush's ocean salt leaves my skin incredibly soft! I use it while in the shower to shave, and then I rub a little more on my arms and legs before rinsing. Rose heaven!

I love this brand in general, but I think I found my new favorite. Reminds me a bit of strawberries and champagne. It has a very subtle hint of rose, perfect for lighting during a relaxing bath in the evening. Maybe I'll treat myself to one tonight.

I'll admit this was a splurge. I don't normally spend more than a few dollars on a lip conditioner, but I've been curious about this product for a long time and I finally purchased it last month. I love it! It leaves my lips soft, and it definitely does have a rose scent to it. Not sure it's quite worth the money, but if you're in the need for a little luxurious pick-me-up in these Winter months, I say go for it.

Have you tried any of these? Do you have any other rose recommendations for me?

9.04.2014

My beauty routine changes ever so slightly on the weekends, but regardless of what I'm wearing on my lips, cheeks, and eyes, I always gravitate to these key basics seven days a week. These "current" favorites have been my staples for the entirety of Summer, and I don't see them changing anytime soon regardless of Fall being around the corner. These are all tried and true, and I recommend each and every one.

I linked to the products I could find online

    1) M.A.C. Fix + : I dampen my beauty blender sponge with this spray and then use it to blend my foundation into my skin. I find that it creates a seamless, perfectly blended canvas. The fact that it smells divine is an added bonus. I don't set my foundation with it, as I still swear by the Urban Decay All Nighter Spray, but I love Fix + as an all around refresher.

   2) NYX eyeshadow in Champagne (you can find this at Ulta): This beautiful golden brown is what I wear on my lids Monday through Thursday as an all-over color. On the weekends when I have more time to play with other shadows, I still like to layer it on the center of the lids for a pretty yet subtle pop of shine. I just find that it really brings out the golden flecks in my eyes, and the consistency is very creamy.

  3) M.A.C. Extra Dimension eyeshadow in Sweet Heat: I feel guilty for mentioning this product because it was limited edition but I know they come out with these every few months now in new collections. I actually don't use this on my eyes - I use it as a cheekbone highlight! It's the perfect amount of sheen that makes my skin glow and it helps my face look more tan. It's just a gorgeous highlight and if you ever spot it in a CCO, grab it.

  4) Urban Decay Brow Box in Brown Sugar: I often used pencils to lightly fill in sparse areas but then my friend told me that powders tend to look a bit more natural. I'm all about natural, so I picked this one up and it's been my go-to ever since. My brows look much more even and fuller than they used to, and while I would love to grow out even more, this powder conceals any bald spots.

  5) Benefit Eye Bright: I love putting this on my brow bones as a natural highlight, but I also dot some in the inner corners of my eyes to brighten them up and make me look more awake! I have Veronika to thank for her recommendation. It's a great product.

  6) Origins GinZing: This brightening eye cream (notice a trend) helps to depuff my under eyes and although I still miss my Khiels avocado eye cream, I have really grown to love this. I wear it underneath my concealer and I've noticed a difference in how the concealer applies and the overall look and finish.

Now here are some recent buys that I have yet to try (I literally just received my NARS order last night). I'll keep you posted on my thoughts, but I can already say that I'm dying to dig in to these gorgeous shadows and liquid illuminator. I hope to wear them for my 30th birthday party and definitely had that event in mind when I bought them.

If you have any questions, let me know!

6.13.2014

I haven't shown you girls what makeup products I've been loving lately, so I thought I'd go ahead and share today. Most are new, with a good basic staple in the mix. I've been experiencing a resurgence in wanting to buy more makeup and I really think I have Instagram to blame. All of you beauty junkies are setting me back to my old ways!

Untitled #6

1) Make Up For Ever HD Foundation - I'm in the color soft sand, or 120. It's funny because it really took me a long time to warm up to this stuff. I bought it last year for my wedding, but my makeup artist Raeleen used a special airbrush foundation instead. But after the pressure of wedding makeup wore off, I really started enjoying this foundation and now I'm addicted. I just finished buying my third bottle! It's perfect for bloggers because it's meant for photography, so you never have to worry about the dreadful ghost look. I wear it all the time though, not just for pictures. It's sheer but buildable, and it always looks natural. Think your skin but ten times better!

2)  Benefit Lip Tint Lip Balm - I have mine in the color Posie, a candied pink (pictured is a red hue). I bought this a few weeks back on a whim while browsing. It's very similar to Fresh's lip treatment if you're familiar with that. It's buttery smooth with actual color. Sheer of course, but still noticeable on my lips. Worn here.

3) L'Oreal Miss Manga Mascara - I plan on dedicating an entire post about this, but let's just say it's all I've been wearing. I normally don't have good luck with mascara. I'm loyal to Benefit They're Real and Cover Girl's Lash Blast. Sadly, I'm cheating on them with Miss Manga. If you like soft volume and lots of length, you have to try this! Psst, the bonus is that it's cheap.

4) Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliner in Mushroom - I know many of you already swear by these liners, but do you have the shade mushroom? If not, you should try it! I love how neutral it is. Not as severe looking as black, but a little more pumped up than your basic brown or grey. I love the taupe color on my brown eyes, as it seems to bring out the gold tones in them. I think it would look beautiful (and natural) on just about anyone. It looks great with next-to-nothing makeup, but also pretty with a smokey look too.

5) M.A.C cosmetics Alluring Aquatics blush in Seduced at Sea - I hope those of you that really wanted this blush were able to get it! I'm not sure if it's even available anymore, but the link I posted should work. I honestly don't pay much attention to their collections anymore. Too hard to keep up with! This caught my eye because of the cute packaging. There, I admit it. But it really is a lovely rose bronze shade. If you want something similar, try Benefit Rockateur. I own both and they are very similar on the skin. Perfect for that Summer glow.

6) Jergens BB Body Cream - The commercial sold me. "BB Goes Body!" I know it's a lame reason to run to Target and buy a tube, but such is the life of a blogger. It happens. Good thing too, because I'm almost down to the end of it and my overall impression is that I love this stuff. The smell is pretty, which is rare for Jergens. Those self-tan creams to mind. This smells nothing like those, it's very soft and feminine. Does it perfect my skin like it claims? I really think it does! My skin definitely looks more even, and it imparts a natural looking glow as soon as it's applied. I may not like BB creams for my face (those have been a big fail for me) but I'll happily use them on my arms and legs.

7) Oribe hair products: Dry Texturizing Spray and Hair Refresher - God, where do I even begin with these? Well I'll tell you how they came to be in my possession. I'm jealous of those of you ladies who have access to blow dry bars. We have nothing like that in my town. Nothing even close, until I found Anastasia. She used to work with my sister-in-law at a salon right by my house, and now she has her own salon. She does the best blow-outs! While treating myself to one a couple months back, I discovered she also sells the highly coveted Oribe brand, and I decided to give the dry texturizing spray and the refresher a go. Well, the rest is history. These are hands-down some of the best hair care products I've tried. Volume and sexy smelling hair abound. I'm happy and husband is happy.

All of these products were used in my Pleats & Picnics post here if you want to take a look :)

Congratulations if you were able to get through this list without nodding off. Happy Friday!

4.03.2014

Two beauty posts in one week? Pretty good! I'm on a roll it seems, and my favorite product to blog about is definitely pictured below. When it comes to excess, my handbags, nightstand, and vanity are filled to the brim with lipsticks, stains, balms, and glosses. Once only interested in nudes and baby pinks, these days I'm all about a bright bold lip.

Quick note: The tray is from Target. I actually keep it on a ledge between our kitchen and living room, and I change the decor out depending on my mood or the season. I love trays for displaying my lip treats though, and am thinking of getting another for my vanity. The random crystal button at the bottom? It went in the center of our wedding cake's bow :)

I grouped my new Spring lip colors according to color, and the bottom two are glosses.

Right now, orange is my shade du jour. Yes it's trendy, all over the runways and magazines. But it's also surprisingly flattering! I never thought I'd be brave enough to pull off such a vibrant color, but I'm telling you that it works! I find that it lifts the complexion and brighten up the entire face. I like to go for more of a true mandarin shade, and avoid anything that's too peach or watered down. The M.A.C. lipstick shown was limited edition, but it's called Fashion Force if you're interested in locating it. However, the orange I highly recommend was actually one I saw on Ella and Carylee. It's the Revlon Lacquer Balm in Tease. Glossy and the perfect shade of orange, it's got just enough red in it to keep it classic, and it's what I've been wearing a lot lately. The Maybelline elixir gloss is in "Mandarin Rapture", and I like to dot just a bit on top of Tease for added shine.

Of course, you can't think Spring without a bright pop of pink on the lips. My favorites are also by Revlon. The original Balm Stain in "Lovesick" is the best fuchsia ever (last worn here), and "Flirtatious" is equally gorgeous. I like the formula of the lacquer balms better because they offer some shine and they are much more moisturizing. My Chanel glossimer in "Glaze" is the perfect topping to any pink lip.

I think I've covered all six, but if you have any questions feel free to ask!

What is your favorite lip shade?

3.26.2014

It's hard to believe that it's been at least a couple of months since I last wrote a beauty post. After all, this is partly a beauty blog! Sorry guys, not sure why there's been a lack of makeup blabbing around here! The start of a season always has me itching to replenish my arsenal with pretty new things, so I promise to fill you in on any new discoveries. And there have been some new discoveries...

My friend Raeleen has been a makeup artist for years. She is the one who did my makeup for my wedding, as well as my gorgeous bridesmaids. She lives and breathes beauty! Well now she has started a new venture, and I couldn't be more thrilled for her as she is extremely talented, kind, and knowledgeable. She started her own Etsy shop called we keep it real, and it's centered around natural, organic beauty products that are not only good for your body, but really lovely to keep in your bathroom or vanity as well.

Raeleen was sweet enough to send over two of her organic lotion hearts for me to try out. It is love, my friends! I have sensitive, dry skin and I've always struggled with peeling, cracking, and itching. Especially my legs! Our desert climate is not conducive to nourished skin, so I'm constantly battling it. Her lotion hearts smell like lavender, and they are packed with essential oils such as coconut and cacao. As soon as I get out of the bath or shower, I place one of the cute little hearts in the palm of my hand and using circular motions, I rub it onto my arms and legs. The feeling is almost like using argan or moroccan oil, but less greasy. The moisture is immediate, and it really lasts throughout the day. I highly recommend them! They would make adorable bridesmaid gifts as well :) Her passion for natural homemade products truly shows in everything she does, so please take a look at her new Etsy.

If you love roses, then you need this new fragrance by Chloe. Need. It's like wearing a bouquet, and although that may be too much for some, it's sheer heaven for those of us who obsess over flowers. I do also enjoy the original scent, with all of its elegance and sophistication. It's one of those scents that you can wear happily year-round, whether in the cold or in the sun. And there's something to be said for that, right?

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Radiant Magenta & Dim Infusion

I must admit, I knew I wanted to try at least one Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush as soon as the hype started. I own the powder version in Dim, and absolutely love the finish it gives to my complexion. These blushes are gorgeous! Buttery, smooth, and blendable, they are also quite pigmented! Much more pigmented than they appear in the pan. My favorite of the two I have is Dim Infusion. It's the prettiest peachy coral that leaves such a glow to the cheeks. It's what I have on in my last few outfit pictures. Radiant Magenta is also very pretty, but I think I need a bit of a tan to pull it off the way I envision it and to really do it justice. It's extremely bright on my pale skin now, but I'm sure come Summer, that one will become my new favorite. All shades are swirled with a corresponding ambient lighting powder, so the effect is very dewy once applied. No glitter or shimmer either, just a soft sheen that's flattering on everyone.

I'm so happy with all of my new beauty acquisitions, and I even have some more to share in the lip department. That post will have to wait until next week. See? I'm going to be a better beauty blogger again, promise.

I've always said that there's no better pick-me-up than treating yourself to some pretty beauty products. They must be completely unnecessary too, and the more spontaneous the purchase, the better :)

Stila Countless Color Pigments in Lyric - At first I wasn't sure what to do with this until I realized what a gorgeous shade of hot pink it would produce on the cheeks. I take a big fluffy brush, swirl it in the pan and apply it generously to my face. The warmth it brings is beautiful, and it really lights up my complexion. Other pigments in the line I think would be great as eye shadow, but lyric in particular caught my eye as a blush.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in # 6 (Pink in Devotion) - This is my first YSL lipstick in this famously luxurious tube. The color is so vibrant in person, but the glossy stain-like formula makes it a bit more wearable. It literally glides on the lips and the outcome? Well, just beautiful, especially for Summertime. Last worn here.

Fekkai Glossing Cream - I swore by this when I was in my late teens and early twenties, and I have no clue why I ever stopped! One little drop and my frizzy hair is transformed into brilliant shine. I found mine at Target, but I've seen it at Ulta, Sephora, and online.

What little luxuries do you treat yourself to?

My current Springtime essentials:
  1. Make Up For Ever HD Foundation - After testing it out for a couple of weeks, this foundation has really grown on me. I wasn't impressed at first, mainly because I am so in love with my Mat Velvet +. I like a nice, medium coverage to conceal the patches of discoloration I have. However, after a few days, my bias changed and I now love how natural it looks. I still prefer the overall coverage and lasting power of Mat Velvet. That foundation will always be my favorite, but the HD is beautiful for this time of year when I want a more dewy complexion. I think of it as a kicked up tinted moisturizer!
  2. UNITE 7 seconds detangler - My soon to be sister-in-law/hair stylist swears by this leave in conditioner at the salon she works in. She got me hooked on UNITE products, and 7 seconds leaves my dry ends looking and feeling much softer and more manageable. I use this right before I blow-dry my hair.
  3. Hourglass Ambient Powder - The much raved about face powder on YouTube intrigued me to the point that I had to see what all the fuss was about. Hourglass has a few shades, but I got mine in Dim Light. I sweep this all over my face as a setting powder. It's very finely milled so it doesn't leave me looking powdery or dry, just very natural.
  4. Revlon Lip Butters in Juicy Papaya and Pink Lemonade - ADDICTED to these two shades. I wrote a post about juicy papaya here. Pink lemonade is a light peachy pink that's great for everyday.
  5. Vaseline Spray & Go Moisturizer - Let me confess something guys...I tend to get really lazy about applying lotion once the weather heats up. My skin is extremely (and I mean extremely) dry in Winter, but as Spring and Summer come around, my skin becomes more normal. This spray - on lotion is great because it absorbs quickly and has a soft scent. Fast, easy, and it really does moisturize without leaving behind a film.
What are your current Spring beauty favorites?

Although Revlon's Lip Butters have been around for quite some time, they have come out with a new shade that I am absolutely wild about. Juicy Papaya is a must-have my friends. A must-have!

I'm not sure why it caught my eye because I haven't purchased a lip butter by Revlon in months. That's what happens when you have too much time to kill on a lunch break. Meandering around Target always ends up in a frivilous purchase of some kind, and for me, that usually means makeup. Juicy Papaya is exactly that on my lips - juicy. The prettiest wash of orange-coral that makes me long for Summer breezes on the beach. Love.

My nudes never get any attention anymore. I simply can't bear to go bare when I have so many colorful choices. I think lipstick can also be used as an accessory to complete your overall look.

Just some examples, but I've noticed that in most of my pictures I have on a bright lip :)

What's your favorite lip color?

12.27.2012

I did a post like this last year, so I wanted to keep the tradition going. Here are some of my favorite outfits from 2012. Looking back, there are definitely a few things that stick out. I loved pops of color, I used jewelry and accessories to dress up otherwise casual outfits, pleated skirts became a total obsession, and skinny jeans were (and still are) my go-to's.

It's amazing how blogging allows me to reflect on my style. I started this journey over three years ago while I was in my final year of college, and it still remains my number one love. I truly thank you for your readership and kind comments. 2013 is slated to be the most exciting (and probably stressful) year of my life. I'm marrying my best friend, we are moving into our own condo, one of my bridesmaids is giving birth to twin boys, and my best girl is also getting married. Lots of changes! One thing I won't change is this blog. Expect more outfits, more beauty products, and more superficial talk (mainly in a selfish effort to keep myself from going completely insane!)

I'm taking the rest of 2012 off, but I will be back later next week after NYE. I love you guys! See you next year :)
