Have Heels Gotten Too High?

I was reading my November edition of Glamour magazine and in the midst of searching for some more Fall style inspiration (like I need any more!) I came across the article entitled "Have Heels Gotten Too High?" I thought this was a great issue to bring up because I am constantly amazed, befuddled, and bewildered by the shoes I see on the runways. No more little kitten heels and practical heights of yesteryear. It seems that when it comes to shoe trends, the higher the heel, the better! But is it really?

I just have to point out my bias here. You girls know I love flats, and wear them constantly with everything. I just love being able to move freely at will, and tottering on stilettos would not only make me look ridiculous but it could also be a health hazard (I'm clumsy). I would love to be able to manuever through life like Rachel Zoe does in her "tranny heels", but I am not Rachel Zoe so I play it safe. That's not to say I don't wear heels because I do and I own quite a few pairs. But three inches, at most four, is all my feet can muster.

However, everyone is different. Some girls (and boys) were born to walk in heels. And I cannot dismiss the artistry behind some of today's most notorious shoe designers. I am talking about you Mr. Brian Atwood! As a lover of fashion, I can't help but admire their creativity, their visions, and ultimately their sense of humor. You don't see them wearing their own designs!

Brian Atwood. Beautiful, but I would fall flat on my face!

So, what do you think about the shoes of today? Maybe it's just me and I need to practice walking. Glamour ended the article by saying that we have so many options now, there is a shoe for everyone. I agree! I'll stick to safety and leave the 6 + inches to the celebrities.
Happy Friday,
Noelle

  2. I hate the super high heels, it's just ridiculous. Plus, I'm pretty tall at 5'8" and I hate wearing anything more than 4 inches. 2-3 inches is perfect!

  5. I am 5'10 and love heels - but I really try to stay away from 4 or more inches. I don't want to look like a giant. My only excuse is the Louboutins ;)

  6. Some of the pictures you picked are hilarious :). I cannot wear heels higher than 3.5inches. I am not sure if I like kitten heels though. Most of my heels are 3-3.5 inches high. And then there're the flats :).

  9. I love heels too but I agree they are too high. I'm 5'8" and almost always wear heels to work and I am sometimes torn with what appropriate. I hate when I find the perfect professional heel @ 5"! Who wears that? Sigh---great post! :-)

  10. Thank you so much for your feedback girls! I can see a lot of you love your heels...as long as they aren't too high. It's hard to find a happy medium. I feel like heels are either too high or too low. I guess when you see that perfect pair, grab it!

  11. So true, heels HAVE gotten too high. I really do think they are meant for short girls that weigh next to nothing. I"m 5"10 and most are wayyyy too high! I love the high styles..but can't wear anything too high without looking rediculous!

  13. Those heels are crazy. I have a hard enough time with 3 in. The last pair looks painful. I have friends that do ballet and they say it's hard. Walking around like a ballerina all day would be a disaster (for me at least) :)

Natasha: I agree, they are stunning

  18. I looooove sky high heels but i draw the line at 5 inches! and they have to have a platform. Nothing worse than a girl in a pair of amazing heels who cant walk in them :)

  19. Heels have gotten much higher these last few years and I've seen women trying to walk with them and stumbling around, looking ridiculous. Why do we have to go so overboard in the US? Tits as big as skyscrapers, and shoes that look ridiculous. I'm 5'3" and wear 2 to 3 inch heels and look fine. I walk gracefully, etc. I've tried higher ones and they kill my feet and don't do anything for me unless..I'm standing totally still. I've NEVER seen anyone walk well in heels over 4 inches. Tim Gunn says that women must realize that with high heels they must mince, NEVER take long natural strides. Also, they put everything out of alignment--cause our butts to thrust out along with our bellies...and our backs...don't ask. Bunions, etc. Really high heels are a hazard to health and beauty in my opinion. On the catwalks, they're fine--they're costume-like...fantasies...not real life.
